Holiday read number three was the sequel to holiday read number two, Me Before You. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the sequel, as the first one had seemed so complete – Me Before You ended really well, and I wasn’t sure what story was left to be told. As it turns out, it’s the story of what happens to Lou after the events of the first book – not the immediate aftermath, but in the months and years that follow the climax of the prequel.
I don’t have an awful lot to say about it, to be honest – I really enjoyed it, especially straight off the back of the other, and it was well written. A few of the common criticisms of sequels in general may apply here, I feel – Lou starts to feel like the unluckiest person in the world after a while (two books’ worth of stuff happening to one person hardly feels fair!) – but the pros outweighed the cons, in my opinion. It was interesting and engaging to read and think about the long term impact of such a decision as Will made, and how it might shape the lives of those touched by it, and I was already invested in the character, life and world that Moyes has created.
Definitely worth a read if you enjoyed Me Before You.
